How to make beeswax lipstick – Process

It really is so simple, that it can not even be called a “process”, but eh I couldn’t think of better subtitle. For it you will need following ingredients: 1 teaspoon of beeswax pastilles, 1 teaspoon of Cocoa butter or Shea butter and 1 teaspoon of coconut oil.

Melt all the mentioned ingredients in simmering (not boiling) water. Considering that melting temperature and small quantity of these ingredients, they should melt quickly. If you wish you can also add any natural color to it. Colors are added in small quantities (1/4 or 1/8 of teaspoon) until you get the desired hue. In the mixture you may also want to add drop or two of vitamin E or honey to make the lipstick more nutritional.

Once all ingredients are melted and mixed, before mixture gets dense, pour it with a dropper into lip chap container or previous lipstick container. Fill just below the top as it will expand slightly as it cools. Leave to cool for at least half an hour. Store in a dark, cool place under 26C/80F or it will soften.

Here are few interesting combinations for colors:

For red color add 1/8 teaspoon of beetroot powder and 1 drop of natural red food coloring. You can make your own beetroot powder. Simply peel the beetroot root and slice it into thin layers which you will then dry in the oven on the low temperature.

For brown color add 1/4 teaspoon of cocoa butter and little bit of turmeric and cinnamon

To get darker shades add little bit more cocoa butter, for stronger red add little bit more of beetroot powder.

For scent of lipstick add any essential oil you want!
